How much does a rose bouquet cost in Medellín?

Bouquets de rosas rojas de diferentes tamaños con globos y regalos

It's the question people search before messaging us, and the one almost nobody answers clearly online. Here it is, with real ranges and an explanation of what's behind every peso, so you know whether you're being charged fairly and where it's worth spending more.

What determines the price of a bouquet

Four things, in order of weight:

  • The number of flowers. It's the most obvious and the biggest factor, but it doesn't rise in a straight line: a bouquet with twice the roses doesn't always cost twice as much, because the arranging work and packaging don't double.
  • The type of rose. Export-quality roses —big bud, sturdy stem, longer life— cost quite a bit more than regular domestic market roses. It's the difference between a bouquet that lasts three days and one that lasts eight.
  • The format. A box, a heart or a cylinder includes materials and hours of assembly that a wrapped bouquet doesn't.
  • The season. In the weeks around Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and Love & Friendship Day, flower prices rise at the source. It isn't a seller's markup: prices go up for everyone.

Ranges by size

For export-quality roses arranged by hand, these are the ballpark figures in Medellín:

  • Small gift (box of 12 to 16 roses with chocolates): from about $145.000.
  • Classic bouquet (12 to 24 roses): between $100.000 and $260.000 depending on quantity and presentation.
  • Premium arrangement or special format (heart, cylinder, base): between $200.000 and $500.000.
  • Large format (100 roses or more, buchón bouquets, jumbo hearts): $500.000 and up, with no clear ceiling: some arrangements cost several million.

If you see a twenty-four-rose bouquet for $60.000, it's not that they're cheaper: it's a different flower, almost always second-grade domestic, with a smaller bud and fewer days of life.

How much delivery adds

Shipping is charged separately and depends on the town. Our rates, for your reference:

  • Medellín: $20.000, 3 to 4 hours.
  • Envigado and Itagüí: $22.000.
  • Bello, Sabaneta and La Estrella: $25.000.
  • Caldas and Copacabana: $38.000, 4 to 6 hours.
  • Rionegro: $90.000, one day in advance.
  • Store pickup: free.

You can see the details in delivery areas.

Each add-on increases the bouquet's price: balloon, card, teddy bear or liquor.

Add-ons, where the bill really adds up

This is where a budget slips away without you noticing. Ferrero chocolates, a bottle, a balloon with a message or a teddy bear can add as much as the bouquet itself. That's fine —they're the touches people remember—, but it's best to decide on them beforehand, not on the fly.

Two that cost almost nothing and go a long way: the handwritten card, which is included, and the ribbon with their name.

How to stretch your budget without it showing

  • Lower the quantity, upgrade the format. Twelve roses in a box look better than twenty-four wrapped in plain paper.
  • Choose color over quantity. A bouquet of blue roses or an unusual shade catches more attention than a bigger red one.
  • Order ahead. On regular dates the price doesn't change, but it saves you from paying for the urgency of finding something specific the same day.
  • Pick up in store if you'll be giving it yourself: you save on delivery and get to hand it over in person.

Where you shouldn't cut corners

On the flower. It's the one part of the bouquet you can't disguise: a second-grade domestic rose opens all at once, droops by the second day, and the gift ends up in the trash before the person could enjoy it. The packaging can be simplified, the quantity can be lowered; the flower quality can't.

Nor on delivery. A gorgeous arrangement that arrives at nine at night, when the person is already in bed, or that sits at a front desk for two days, isn't worth what it cost.

What the price you see includes

A bouquet isn't just flowers, and it helps to know what you're paying for when comparing two prices:

  • The flowers, which usually account for between half and two-thirds of the cost.
  • The arranging work. A well-made bouquet involves selecting stem by stem, removing thorns and leaves, and assembly. That's what makes two bouquets with the same roses look different.
  • The packaging: paper, ribbon, base or box depending on the format.
  • The handwritten card, which is included.
  • Responsibility for delivery: that it arrives in good condition, on time and to the right person.

What it doesn't include, and it's worth being clear on this, is the vase: bouquets come wrapped.

How to compare two quotes

If you're getting prices from several places, always ask these four things. They put an end to comparing apples and oranges:

  • Exactly how many stems? “Large bouquet” isn't a measurement.
  • Export-quality or domestic roses? It's the difference between three and eight days of life.
  • Is delivery included, and to which town?
  • Are chocolates and add-ons extra?

Almost always, the price that seemed lowest stops being so once the second question is answered.

How much each format costs

With the same number of roses, the format changes the final price. From lowest to highest, generally speaking:

  • Wrapped bouquet: the most affordable for the same number of flowers.
  • Box: adds the cost of the box and assembly, and arrives ready to display.
  • Cylinder or base: similar to the box, with more height and presence.
  • Heart: more arranging work, because the shape requires placing each stem one by one.
  • Buchón and large format: a category of its own, in both flowers and hours.

Frequently asked questions

Why do prices go up so much on Valentine's Day?

Because flower prices rise at the farm: global demand peaks in those weeks, and the same stem that costs X in March costs several times more in February. Ordering ahead helps secure product, though it doesn't avoid the increase.

Is it cheaper to put it together yourself?

Buying at the market, yes, in money. But you have to add the trip, the paper, the time and the risk of picking flowers that won't last. For a simple gesture it may be worth it; for an important gift, almost never.

Does the price include a vase?

Bouquets come wrapped, not in a vase. If you want it to arrive ready to display without needing anything, choose a format with a base, in a box or in a cylinder.

Can I order something to fit my budget?

Yes. Message us on WhatsApp with the amount and the occasion and we'll suggest two or three specific options. It's faster than browsing the whole catalog.
